Join us for a kick-off event to welcome Richmond’s fourth annual artist-in-residence, Paige Gratland. Hear firsthand about her plans for the free community programs, activities and workshops she will offer in 2019.
Paige Gratland’s projects move playfully across media, including video, performance, sculpture and printmaking. Her artistic practice is rooted in collaboration, social history and design and she employs a range of creative strategies to help build community and create unique opportunities for interpersonal and intergenerational exchange.
Applying her background in video, film and artist multiples, Paige will host a series of film screenings, hands-on workshops and collaborative projects to explore best practices through the lens of a queer, feminist, artist and labourer. While at Branscombe House, Paige will also initiate research and development for a documentary/fiction film that follows the work and lives of flight crews. Richmond’s rich aviation history makes Branscombe House the ideal space for Paige to undertake this exciting and ambitious project.
At the Launch Event on January 24, Paige will present examples of previous work and her plans for her upcoming residency. The talk will be followed by a short reception.
The Branscombe House Artist Residency takes place in the recently restored Edwardian style house located in the residential area of historic Steveston. The 11-month residency program is an opportunity for artists to present free creative workshops for the community in exchange for 100% subsidized two-bedroom upstairs suite. Branscombe House is located at 4900 Steveston Highway and is one of the earliest homes built in the area.
This event is for Youth (Ages 13-18), Adult (Ages 18+) & 55+ (Ages 55 and over)
Disability access is available.
