Councillor Laura Gillanders


Laura GillandersA long-time Richmond resident, Laura Gillanders works tirelessly and successfully for her community.

Laura is focused on ensuring Richmond is a healthy, thriving community where families can live and prosper. She supports making housing more accessible and affordable, addressing climate change through improved transportation infrastructure and better tree protection, and preserving our City’s rich cultural heritage.

Through her work with Richmond FarmWatch, Laura successfully campaigned to preserve Richmond’s highly productive farmland to safeguard food security and reduce house size limits. She has also served in past years as chairperson of the Richmond Food Security and Agricultural Advisory Committee.

A mother of two young boys and stepmom to two young adults, Laura has over 30 years in accounting and as chief financial officer of a large Richmond-based construction company. Her professional experience has reinforced the importance of supporting local businesses and attracting workers to Richmond.

Laura was elected to Council in October 2022.
