Holiday Hours at the Recycling Depot
Please Note the Following Service Disruptions: The Richmond Recycling Depot will be closed on Dec 25, 26 and Jan 1.
Holiday Collection Changes
Curbside CollectionResidents with City Blue Box, Green Cart and Garbage Cart, collections scheduled for Thursday, December 25 will be two days later than usual and collections scheduled for Thursday, January 1 will take place one day later than usual.
Centralized Collection:
Residents with Centralized Blue, Green and Garbage Cart collections scheduled for December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 2 will take place one day later than usual.

Holiday Recycling
The holidays will likely come with their fair share of packaging and paper that can be recycled! Check out Recycle BC's Holiday Recycling Guide to see common holiday materials and how to recycle them.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Richmond offers several options for recycling your tree after the holidays. Help return your tree to nature:
- Drop off Christmas trees for free at the Richmond Recycling Depot, 5599 Lynas Lane.
- Christmas trees can be collected through curbside green cart collection.
- Cut up trees and gather in 3 feet x 2 feet bundles or place into your green cart.
- Branches must be less than 4 inches in diameter.
- Remember to remove ornaments and tinsel from the tree.

Artificial Christmas Tree Reuse, Recycling & Disposal
If your artificial Christmas tree is retiring from your home this holiday season, here are a few options to consider:
- There are many online groups/pages that allow sharing and gifting of useable items, consider your local Buy Nothing Group.
- If your tree is made up of 50% metal, it can be recycled at the Richmond Recycling Depot.
- If you are eligible for Large Item Pick Up you can schedule a pick-up of your Christmas tree for landfill disposal.
If you have a broken or unusable string of lights, consider the following options:
- Book an appointment at a Reuse & Repair Café to have your string of lights repaired.
- Lights that are end of life are accepted for recycling at the Richmond Recycling Depot.
Preparing for Winter Weather
Snowfall accumulations can impact collection services. Here are a few ways you can help recycling and garbage collection during winter weather:

- Keep the tops of your carts clear of snow so carts can be opened easily by collection crews
- If possible, help collection crews by ensuring the path to your carts is clear of snow or ice
