Let's Recycle Correctly: Hazardous Items

Food Scraps Recycling in the Summer

Hot summer weather can speed up decomposition of food scraps, with more potential for odours and build-up on the sides of Green Carts. Keep your Green cart cleaner and reduce odours by:
  • Wrap food scraps in small amounts of newspaper or used paper towel before adding to your kitchen container.
  • Sprinkle kitchen container with baking soda..
  • Consider freezing food scraps until you're ready to empty them into the Green Cart.
  • Line kitchen container with newspaper or paper bag liner (available for purchase at you local retail stores).
  • Wash your kitchen container regularly.

Choose to Reuse and Recycle Correctly This Summer

Planning an outdoor adventure this summer? Whether you are camping, hosting a park barbeque or picnic, here are some simple tips to help take care of our natural surroundings, reduce waste and recycle correctly.
  • Prevent overflowing receptacles by packing out what you pack in when visiting parks for picnics and barbeques.
  • Plan meals ahead in reusable containers.
  • Pack reusable plates, cups and utensils.
  • Use a fabric tablecloth and fabric napkins.
  • Bring designated bags to sort your waste such as bottles and cans, food waste and garbage.
  • Bring items home for proper disposal if there's no garbage and recycling bins onsite.
