Richmond Museum presents the 14th edition of Doors Open Richmond online

31 May 2021

The public is invited to open over 30 virtual doors that represent the city’s cultural diversity and heritage at this year’s annual Doors Open Richmond, once again being offered online and taking place from Saturday, June 5 to Saturday, June 12, 2021.

During this week-long event, unique online experiences are available on your mobile phone, tablet or desktop from partner sites that include places of worship, civic centres, museums and local businesses. There are seven new sites for 2021, including Anar Persian Cuisine, the Richmond Chinese Community Society and the Steveston Harbour Authority. Check out the entire list of virtual Doors Open Richmond activities at www.richmondmuseum.ca/doors-open.

Doors Open Richmond is a free annual event with the goal of showcasing the diverse, multicultural places and communities of the city and raising civic awareness. Residents and visitors are provided an opportunity to discover and reconnect with a variety of local programs, services and businesses.

Following on the success of last year’s virtual event, this year’s edition will feature new videos that provide a glimpse behind the curtain of participating sites.

The Doors Open Richmond videos will be shared:

  • throughout the week-long event on Richmond Museum’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) using #DoorsOpenRichmond;
  • the following day on the museum website’s new interactive map; and
  • by Doors Open Richmond partner sites, along with original content on their social media channels.

Some highlights that will be featured include a tour of the Richmond Mosque, the first and largest mosque in BC; an inside look at the broadcast station of Fairchild Television and Talentvision; a look at the interesting process of street naming by the City of Richmond’s Property Records Clerk; and much more.

Established in 2008, and presented by the Richmond Museum, Doors Open Richmond is the longest-running Doors Open event in British Columbia. The local event is part of the Doors Open Canada program supported by the City of Richmond, the Government of Canada, the BC Arts Council and the Province of British Columbia. The event is organized by the Richmond Museum Society.
