The City of Richmond is once again encouraging everyone to prove you move for the 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge. Throughout the month of June, anyone who lives, works or plays in Richmond is invited to take part in more than 90 free or low-cost activities for all ages as the City promotes community-wide participation in this nationwide initiative.
Richmond is well-positioned to become Canada’s Most Active Community in 2025 with the help of its residents, local organizations and businesses. Well-known as a top participating community each year, Richmond was named British Columbia’s Most Active Community in 2022 and 2024, and ranked among the top 50 communities nationally in other years.
The Community Challenge will be launched with a special kick-off event on Saturday, June 7 from 9:00am to noon at Thompson Community Park (5011 Granville Avenue). This free, family-friendly outdoor event will begin with an opening ceremony hosted by Mayor Malcolm Brodie and will feature a wide range of engaging activities, such as interactive community booths, food trucks and fun fitness and movement classes, in addition to an indoor fitness “marathon” — all designed to encourage and celebrate physical activity.
Among the 90+ free or low-cost activities offered in June by the City of Richmond and its community partners are:
- Active One Step at a Time Bingo Card Challenge at Steveston Community Centre
- Adventures Activity Booklet at Britannia Shipyards
- Be All You Cambie Fun Run at Cambie Community Centre and King George Community Park
- Cycle Fit at City Centre and West Richmond Community Centres
- Family Sports Day at South Arm Park

In addition to joining the programs and activities available at Richmond community facilities, residents, organizations and businesses can show their support and get involved in the Community Challenge in these additional ways:
- Individuals can sign up and take the “Pledge to Get Active” by visiting the ParticipACTION website (participACTION.com/individual-pledge) during the month of June.
- Richmond-based organizations, community groups and businesses can register on the ParticipACTION website (participACTION.com/signup) then track and report eligible programs and events they host between June 1 and 30.
The ParticipACTION Community Challenge, presented by Novo Nordisk and funded in part by the Government of Canada, will announce Canada’s Most Active Community on Monday, July 21 and provide a $100,000 national prize for local physical activity and sport initiatives. In 2024, 1,250 communities, 1,118 organizations and more than 590,000 individuals participated across Canada and over $1 million dollars in provincial/territorial prizes and grants were awarded.
