The City of Richmond celebrated the opening of the new Richmond Centre for Disability (RCD) location in a City-owned amenity space at 150 - 5520 McNaughton Road at today’s (April 16) official ribbon-cutting event.

For more than 40 years, RCD has supported individuals with disabilities by providing essential resources, training and support as well as raising public awareness of disability and promoting accessibility within the Richmond community.

This new facility will support RCD to continue this important work in an accessible space of more than 4,000 square feet. The new space was designed following the City’s Enhanced Accessibility Design Guidelines to ensure that visitors of all abilities can safely and comfortably access the services, while also supporting the employment of staff with disabilities. The City secured this amenity space from Townline Ventures Inc. and Can Lit Development Limited Partnership as part of the Luxe Lansdowne high-density development.

The City of Richmond is committed to being a municipal leader in the advancement of accessibility and continues to work with RCD and other disability-serving community organizations to promote the advancement of accessibility in Richmond, so that all community members can fully participate in the Richmond community.

Opening RCD’s new location within a City amenity space reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to accessibility, in alignment with the Council-adopted Richmond Accessibility Plan (2023–2033) which can be found at richmond.ca/accessibility.
