The City of Richmond is inviting homeowners with climate-friendly homes or gardens to take part in the second annual Climate-Friendly Homes and Gardens Tour this summer.
The tour gives residents an opportunity to share their experience with features that support more sustainable living, such as heat pumps, solar panels, energy-efficient building design, drought-tolerant landscaping, rain barrels and pollinator-friendly plants.
This year’s tour will take place on Saturday, August 22 and/or Sunday, August 30, 2026. Participating homeowners may choose to take part on one or both dates.
The tour is designed to encourage friendly, informal and informative conversations between homeowners and visitors. By sharing their first-hand experience, participating residents can help others learn more about climate-friendly features, including their benefits, costs, comfort and ongoing upkeep. Contractors, Energy Advisors and other experts will also be available at some locations to answer questions and provide additional information.
Homeowners are not expected to open their entire home to the public. The focus of the tour is on showcasing specific climate-friendly features and sharing practical experience.
Residents who participate will help inspire others to explore options for improving home comfort, supporting sustainability and potentially reducing household operating costs. Orientation sessions will be provided to help homeowners prepare for the tour and understand what to expect.
Homeowners interested in participating can register their home by Friday, July 31, 2026. More information and registration details are available on the Eventbrite page at https://bit.ly/ClimateFriendlyTour2026.
