The City of Richmond invites residents to share input related to the potential creation of a Memorial Garden—an inclusive, contemplative space where people could honour and remember loved ones in meaningful ways.
Richmond’s diverse community holds a wide range of cultural, spiritual and personal traditions. The City is launching a six-week public engagement process to gather input reflecting this diversity, determine the level of support for a potential Memorial Garden, and learn which features, amenities and forms of remembrance would be most meaningful to residents.
There are a number of opportunities for the public to participate online and in person:
Online:
- Visit LetsTalkRichmond.ca/MemorialGarden to learn more and complete an online survey.
- The survey will be open until 11:59pm on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
In person:
Four in-person, drop-in style open houses will allow staff to meet members of the public, engage in discussion, answer questions and gather feedback. Open house materials will be presented in English and Traditional Chinese. Staff with proficiency in Mandarin and Cantonese will attend each in-person event to answer questions and discuss the project as needed.
- Wednesday, May 21, 2025 | 6:00 to 8:00pm
Hamilton Community Centre, 5140 Smith Drive
- Saturday, May 31, 2025 | 11:00am to 1:00pm
West Richmond Community Centre, 9180 No. 1 Road
- Tuesday, June 3, 2025 | 6:00 to 8:00pm
Cambie Community Centre, 12800 Cambie Road

Determining community preferences related to site features is one of the goals of this engagement process. Specific locations for a potential Memorial Garden are not being considered at this time. Should Council support the initiation of a site planning and design phase in the future, criteria for site selection would then be considered.
This is an important opportunity for Richmond residents to share whether they support this initiative and ensure that any prospective Memorial Garden would meet the diverse cultural and spiritual needs of the community. The results of this public engagement process will inform recommended next steps that will be presented to Council for consideration in fall 2025.
