Richmond students shared their knowledge about Canada’s fascinating past at the Richmond Museum’s 23rd annual Richmond Regional Heritage Fair on Friday, May 9.

Richmond elementary school students created exciting project displays about Canada’s diverse history and heritage with themes that ranged from prominent Canadians, such as Christine Sinclair and David Suzuki, to significant events like the Halifax Explosion of 1917. Students and visiting classes also took part in free activities and workshops presented by the Richmond Arts Services, Richmond Art Gallery and the Richmond Museum.

Seventeen awards were presented, with three students chosen to represent Richmond at the BC Provincial Heritage Fair in Vancouver from July 1 to 4, 2025. These students are:

  • Maiia Stolairova, Grade 5, Talmey Elementary School
  • Carys Glen, Grade 6, Westwind Elementary School
  • Kaylee Lin, Grade 7, McNeely Elementary School

The local schools who participated in this year’s Heritage Fair at the Richmond Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate) were Cornerstone Christian Academy, L’école des Navigateurs, General Currie Elementary, Hamilton Elementary, McNeely Elementary, Westwind Elementary, William Bridge Elementary, Talmey Elementary and Thompson Elementary.

The annual Richmond Regional Heritage Fair is sponsored by the City of Richmond, Richmond Museum Society, BC Heritage Fairs Society, Richmond School District, Richmond Heritage Commission, Canada’s History and the BC Arts Council. The Heritage Fair program is a bilingual, educational initiative that aims to encourage students to explore Canadian history and heritage in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment. Thousands of students participate in Heritage Fairs across the country each year.
