Returning in person for the first time since 2019, the City of Richmond is hosting its popular Capital Projects Open House, where residents and businesses can come out to City Hall and learn about new and on-going capital construction works in their neighbourhoods and throughout Richmond. City staff welcome all to come to the City Hall Galleria, 6911 No. 3 Road, on Wednesday, April 19 from 3 to 7 p.m.
Complementing the open house is the return of the Capital Projects Highlights online at LetsTalkRichmond.ca.
“The City is excited to showcase over 50 upcoming and ongoing capital projects that will provide long-lasting, sustainable and accessible facilities and amenities for Richmond residents,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “The diverse portfolio of projects aligns with Council’s social, environmental and economic priorities. The capital budget ensures Richmond’s infrastructure supports the growing community and ensures the city is well protected from environmental impacts.”
This year’s highlighted projects include:
Engineering
- Flood protection initiatives including dike upgrades, design and maintenance
- Over two kilometers of watermain replacements
Parks
- City-wide community gardens expansion
- Lulu Island Park master planning
Sustainability and District Energy
- New development connecting to Alexandra District Energy Utility: Primstone Gardens (4008 Stolberg Street)
- New development connecting to Oval Village District Energy Utility: Onni Riva 4 (7009 River Parkway)
Capital Buildings Project Development
- Infrastructure, structural and envelope upgrades to Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site
- New facility construction, replacing Steveston Community Centre and Library
Transportation
- Multi-use pathway - Steveston Highway (No. 2 Road to Railway Avenue)
- Intersection improvements – No. 4 Road at Westminster Highway
There are two ways to participate:
- In person: Come out to the drop-in style open house where City staff will be available to answer questions and provide further information. Community partners such as TransLink will also be in attendance with information and display boards about some of their projects throughout Richmond.
- Online: Visit LetsTalkRichmond.ca for summaries of the same information from the Capital Projects Open House. View information online and submit questions from Thursday, April 6 to Sunday, May 7, 2023.
