The City of Richmond invites the community to gather on Wednesday, November 11, to honour the courage and sacrifice of Canadians who have served and continue to serve. The annual Remembrance Day ceremony will take place at Richmond City Hall, located at 6911 No. 3 Road.
The ceremony will begin at 10:20am with a parade featuring Canadian veterans, members of the Royal Canadian Legion and Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada, Richmond’s permanent Canadian Forces Unit 39 Service Battalion, public safety representatives and cadet organizations.
Official ceremonies will begin at 10:40am at the City Hall cenotaph on the east side of the building. At 11:00am, attendees will observe two minutes of silence, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony. Due to the nature of the event, attendees are asked to leave pets at home.
Those unable to attend in person can watch the ceremony live online at richmond.ca/remember by selecting the “Watch Ceremony” button. A recording will also be available to view after the event.
Following the ceremony, the public is invited inside City Hall for a Remembrance Day reception with hot drinks, an opportunity to connect with fellow community members and volunteers and reflect on the significance of the day. Remembrance Day displays presented by the Richmond Museum, the City of Richmond Archives and the Friends of the Richmond Archives will also be available to explore.
Temporary road closures and traffic changes will be in effect from 8:00am to 1:30pm on November 11. The following roads will be closed in both directions:
- Granville Avenue: Between Minoru Boulevard and Buswell Street
- No. 3 Road: Between Park Road and Bennett Road
Motorists are encouraged to plan and allow extra time when travelling in the area.
The event is partially funded by Veterans Affairs Canada’s Commemorative Partnership Program.
