The City of Richmond is expanding its digital permitting services through MyPermit, making it easier for residents, businesses and industry to apply for building and development permits online.

The MyPermit portal was added as a digital service within the MyRichmond platform in 2023, with adoption growing steadily and more than 2,340 applications processed online to date. In 2026, 72 per cent of sprinkler permit applications and 53 per cent of gas permit applications were submitted online. With 24/7 customer self-service enabled, 23 per cent of online permit applications were submitted outside City Hall operating hours, allowing customers to submit applications at a time that works for them.

On September 21, 2026, MyPermit expanded to add building permit applications for single-family homes, small-scale multi-unit housing and additions and alterations across building types including commercial, office and industrial buildings.

"MyPermit represents an improvement to how we serve residents, builders and businesses across our city," said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. "By improving application quality at intake and making services more accessible online, we are removing barriers to housing and helping projects move forward with greater certainty. This launch reflects our ongoing commitment to building a more livable and resilient Richmond."

A further release planned for November will introduce online development permit and subdivision applications, as well as building permit applications for new commercial, industrial and multi-family construction.

The expansion supports the City's strategic housing priorities and is supported through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's Housing Accelerator Fund.
