The City of Richmond celebrated the opening of the new Garden City Park Gathering Space on Saturday, September 19, 2026, providing a peaceful and welcoming new feature to help make this community park an even more inclusive and meaningful space.

“Richmond’s parks are important places for people to connect with nature, with their community and with one another,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “The Garden City Park Gathering Space adds a welcoming new place for reflection and connection, and we thank the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset for helping make this meaningful addition to the park possible.”

Located in the northwest section of Garden City Community Park, the new 430 square-metre gathering space features a small entry plaza with a ginkgo tree, a walkway lined with dedicated benches, a circular seating area with a central rock feature and Peace Poles displaying “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in multiple languages.

The project was initiated by the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset in 2022 and funded through a $300,000 contribution from the Club, in partnership with the City through the Partners for Beautification Program. The new space builds on the Rotary Club’s long-standing contributions to Garden City Community Park, including the park’s arboretum established in 2009.
