A total of 17,464 voters cast their ballots across five Advance Voting Days on October 3, 7, 8, 9 and 10. This represents a 141% increase compared to the 2022 election, when 7,247 voters voted in advance.

The Richmond Elections Office reminds eligible residents to make their mark and have a say in local government by voting in the 2026 Richmond General Local and School Election on Saturday, October 17.

Voters can be prepared and plan their voting experience by reviewing these easy and simple steps:

  1. Register to vote.
Voters can check if they are already registered by using the Am I on the Voters List? online tool. If you are registering for the first time, you must provide two pieces of ID that together include your name and residential address. One piece must include your signature.

  2. Find out where to vote.
To find out where to vote on General Voting Day (Saturday, October 17), voters can use the Where Do I Vote? online tool. There are 38 voting locations across the city. Voters must vote at their designated voting division.

  3. Review the candidates' profiles.
Candidate profiles are statements written by each candidate and can be viewed online or in the Voter’s Guide which was mailed to residents and is also available online.

  4. Encourage friends and family to vote.
Voting is a cornerstone of democracy and voters are encouraged to share election information with friends and family and even share their experiences on social media. To respect privacy and the election process, audio/video recordings and photographs are not permitted inside voting locations. However, people can take selfies or photos outside.

  5. Vote!
Eligible voters can choose 1 candidate for Mayor, up to 8 candidates for Councillor and up to 7 candidates for School Trustee in Richmond.

  6. Find out the election results.
Results will be tabulated and shared via richmond.ca/elections after voting ends at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17.

Vote by Mail Ballot
Voters can request a package by phone at 604-276-4100 until October 15 at 3:00 p.m. While ballots can no longer be requested online or returned via Canada Post, voters can pick up a mail ballot at City Hall and return it to a voting location on General Voting Day. For more information on mail ballot voting, visit richmond.ca/elections or call the Elections Office at 604-276-4100.

Accessible Voting
The City strives to ensure that voting locations are accessible for people who use wheelchairs, walkers and mobility scooters. However, some locations are not fully accessible. Curbside voting will be in place at all locations and have signs with clearly marked instructions on what to do when arriving to vote.

Translation
Voting instructions at the voting place will be available in French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Punjabi. Translated versions of the Voter’s Guide are available online in French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Punjabi. Voters who require language assistance are welcome to bring a family member or a friend to translate for them or request assistance from an elections official.
