Description of Work

The vibrant and playful triangular pattern move from the horizontal plane to the vertical plane as the installation moves from sidewalk to barrier, mapping out the blooming calendar of pollinator friendly vegetation.

Artist Statement

The Apiary Almanac references the honey bee and the fruits of their labour. Honey produced in every colony is as distinct as the place it came from. Its flavour profile changes from place to place depending on the surrounding vegetation, and can even differ from year to year depending on the season. Honey is created from distinct elements of a neighbourhood (nectar), which is collected, distilled, and mixed together to produce a uniquely sweet expression of time and place.

This temporary installation interprets an aspirational blooming calendar, drawing colour from a palate of foraging material we hope will eventually be on site. The form and geometry subtly references the honeycomb, creating a playful and vibrant installation that references the future potential of this changing community
