During times of extreme weather including low temperatures, snow, extreme heat or poor air quality, there are additional services and supports available to assist people in Richmond who may be sheltering outdoors, in vehicles or experiencing other forms of homelessness. Temporary Shelters for Winter 2024/25
Richmond’s Temporary Winter Shelters are now closed for the season. Information about winter shelter options for the 2025/26 winter season will be available in late October 2025.
Summer – Extreme Weather Response
Cooling Map
During hot weather, the Richmond Cooling Map shows where you can find water fountains, places to stay cool and misting stations around the city.
Cooling Centres
During an extreme heat event or air quality warning, some civic facilities (such as libraries or community centres) may be designated as cooling centres for those wanting to drop-in to cool off or access cleaner air.
