Biography

Aman Aheer (b. 1992) is a queer painter of Indian heritage. He obtained his BFA in visual arts in 2018 from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and has since exhibited his work in Vancouver and London. While his practice is generated out of multiple vantage points, one of these is his background as part of the chamar caste. This Dalit or ‘untouchable’ community in India has historically been associated with weaving, leatherwork, and other laborious forms of craftsmanship. His most recent group exhibitions have been Moving Throughlines (2020), held at Vancouver’s Seymour Gallery, and KingDom (2021), held at ArtHub Studios in London, UK. Aheer’s work has also appeared in several recent print publications, including the Khidr Collective Zine and Kajal Magazine. He was recently awarded a public art commission by the City of Richmond, which will be unveiled in August of 2021.
