Artist Statement

"Stone, Water, Breeze" celebrates Richmond’s natural heritage, where West Coast landscapes meet diverse communities — combining Eastern and Western artistic traditions through the experience of holding multiple perspectives simultaneously.

Rooted in his BC coast studies, Liu's paintings are influenced by Chinese water-based woodblock prints. This shows in compressed forms, flat colour fields, economical marks, and voids as active, breathing space. Instead of a fixed Western horizon, he explores scattered perspectives and fragments, reflecting an Eastern aesthetic that organizes space and memory within the painting.
