Description of Work

This artwork features illustrations of small details of the landscape, such as a crumpled hot dog wrapper, a handful of scattered creamer packets, a variety of overturned, broken chairs, a deflated balloon, a rogue shopping cart, weeds sprouting through cracks, a series of orange peels, etc. The illustrations are digitally collaged ink drawings printed on vinyl, in shades of blue, purple, pink, red, and cream.

Artist Statement

Walking is an essential part of O Brien's creative process—a way to reflect, make space for new ideas, and find inspiration in the world around. The work was created through walking the surrounding neighbourhood and paying attention to small,often-overlooked details: a cat in a driveway, overturned chairs in a back alley, a deflated

balloon, a rogue shopping cart, weeds sprouting through sidewalk cracks, a discarded orange peel. These sketches collect the quiet traces left on the landscape, layering

them together to reflect the subtle textures of the city
