Biography
Evan Lee is a visual artist based in Vancouver, Canada. He is known for exhibitions of his
experimental image-based work, but also for working across the range of media and subjects,
as well as teaching and writing. His works have been published, collected and exhibited across
Canada and internationally.
Evan Lee (b. 1975) received his MFA from the University of British Columbia in 2000. He is known for exhibitions of his experimental photo-based work but also for working across the range of media and subjects, as well as for teaching and writing. Lee was selected as the West Coast and the Yukon finalist for the 2014 Sobey Art Award and was commissioned for a Public Art Project at River Park Place in Richmond, BC installed in 2016.
Exhibitions include: The Pacific at the Libby Leshgold Gallery, 2014 Sobey Art Award at the Winnipeg Art Gallery; Roots and Elders at the Richmond Art Gallery; On the Nature of Things at the Kamloops Art Gallery; Pictures from Here, Again and Again and Again and In Dialogue with Carr at the Vancouver Art Gallery; Triumphant Carrot: the Persistence of Still Life and Playing Homage at the Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver); Evan Lee Captures at Presentation House Gallery (North Vancouver); Contact Photography Festival (Toronto); Le Mois de la Photo à Montreal; At Play at the Liu Hai Su Museum (Shanghai) and Curb Appeal at Confederation Centre (Charlottetown).
Evan Lee’s work has been featured and reviewed in Border Crossings, Flash Art International, Lapiz International Art Magazine, Yishu Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art, Canadian Art, and Art on Paper.Lee has taught at the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design and in the Department of Fine Arts at UBC. He served on the Board of Directors of Centre A and is represented by Monte Clark Gallery in Vancouver.
