Biography
Melissa Luk is an artist born in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada (unceded Musqueam territory). After graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU) in 2012 she has had a practice focused on public art, mural painting and community engagement. She has painted works internationally participating in the Palimpsest Project in Argentina, the Free Wall Project at Survive! Garage in Indonesia, HKWalls mural festival in Hong Kong and with the Farnsworth Art Museum in USA. Her mural works are often collaborative and she is a member of the mural collective Buck Teeth Girls Club. When not painting large walls, her studio practice revolves around small objects in the form of mail art, collecting, gift-giving and hand-cutting vinyl stickers. However, her upcoming projects will return to the large-scale, planning to form a political art collective and an ongoing land art piece that will explore themes of resource equilibrium, solidarity and longevity.
