About the Presenter:
Shannon Pawliw (she/her) is the Artistic Director and founder of THIS Gallery and a visual artist working in conceptual painting and sculptural installation.
Pawliw works in exploratory series that are undertaken with the explicit intent of creating fantasy-based objects built around ideas, practices and concepts that fascinate her. These concepts are as diverse as time, memory, family, loss and the microbial world. At its root, all of the work shares a tendency to observe, romanticize and fantasize about different aspects of our shared humanity, both it’s failings and it’s triumphs.
THIS Gallery is a brick-and-mortar gallery located in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. THIS Gallery is dedicated to the creation and exhibition of both commercial and non-commercial art.
Our mandate is to support artists by providing exhibition space and opportunities to earn a living through the sale of their work. We believe that art is an ESSENTIAL part of our collective well-being—something we need not just to survive, but to thrive. We want artists to keep doing what they do best: bring inquisitiveness, play, beauty, introspection and joy into the world.
The Artist Salon Series features art professionals leading inspirational artist talks and professional development for visual artists each month from February to November. Programs are either live-streamed online or hosted in person. Past livestreams may be viewed as on-demand videos on the RAG@Home video page.
