Description of Work
Utility building (drainage pump station) with interactive elements demonstrating various water treatment functions and services supported by the building.
Artist Statement
The pump station is conceived as an interactive work of art and engineering. It communicates about the different ways in which water is treated on site – water drained from storm sewers pumped out to the Fraser, city water for drinking and cleaning, and rainwater collected from the large wing-like roof that echoes the airplanes flying overhead and landing on the river. These functions, along with the electrical and communications services needed to support them, are housed within a line of powder-coated steel bollards framing the building and as equipment within the building, all highlighted using different paint colours.
