Artist Statement
This artwork draws inspiration from ancient Salish markers—stone structures historically used for navigation, to indicate safe landing sites, mark territories and boundaries, or honor places of respect and memorial. These markers often signified areas of spiritual significance and power. The installation consists of four large, intricately carved stone groupings positioned at the entrances of the residential towers at Richmond Centre. Each grouping serves as a contemporary interpretation of these traditional markers, welcoming residents and visitors while paying homage to the cultural heritage of the land.
