Leisure can help you recharge, but it can also help your community.

This World Leisure Day on April 16, try something new and make a difference at the same time.

Volunteering is one of the many ways to build a strong, connected community. Whether you’re helping care for parks, supporting local programs or sharing your skills, every action helps make Richmond a better place to live.

Discover the various ways to get involved with the City of Richmond and the community societies and organizations that support and shape Richmond’s diverse culture, including health, wellness and cultural opportunities. World Leisure Day is a perfect time to start something new!

Ways to Play Your Part

Make an Impact

Every small action makes a difference. Richmond’s community associations and organizations are the backbone of local leisure activities. By volunteering, you help ensure that recreation, culture and leisure opportunities thrive for future generations. Choose an activity you enjoy that benefits your community, or explore more volunteer roles at icanhelp, or visit your local rrecreation facility.

Help care for local parks

Join the South Arm Park Clean-Up. Spend time outside, meet others and help keep our parks clean and safe.

Support butterflies and pollinators

Visit the Butterfly Habitat at Paulik Park to learn how to support butterfly life cycles.
You can also join the Nectar Trail Program and create a small pollinator-friendly garden at home or work.

Strengthen the Circular Food System

Apply for a community garden plot and support local food production. Gain valuable gardening skills, grow your own food and share gardening tips, resources and experiences with like-minded community members.

Repair and reuse

Drop into RAGS: Re-Invent, Reuse, Repair. Learn simple ways to fix or update clothing. No experience needed. All are welcome.

Looking for more? Check out the Reuse and Repair Fair and Richmond Circular Learning Hub for more ways to get involved.

On April 16, spend your time in ways that benefit both you and your community.
