Artist Statement

In this work, a single plate of steel has been transformed into a tall, three-dimensional form without production of excess. Bell invites viewers to witness the transformations between two different dimensions while contemplating the meaning of production and by-product within our daily economy . Any material can represent or become a new object, and every object possesses the potential to be used as a material. This concept, as well as the themes of space and duration – specifically their relationships with matter -- are important elements of the artist’s practice and are offered here for the viewer to consider in daily life.
