The artwork is installed in the stairwell off of the main entrance to the Community Centre.

Artist Statement

RISING speaks to the anticipation and energy involved in the ritual of climbing stairs and strives to enhance this daily experience. As we rise up, we see painted vignettes with echoes and expressions of parallel journeys through the steps of our lives. At the top of the stairs, we are greeted by a figure representing human movement and mechanics. All the figures in this artwork are silhouettes of our community centre users and incorporate the ideas and paintings of staff and residents, including preschoolers, juniors, youth and seniors. This project was created by the community for the community.
