Description of Work

The ‘Richmond South Arm Millennium Mural: Eco-vision’ is a community-based collaborative art project created by the artist in collaboration with Richmond school children at James White Elementary School and Choice School, their teachers and members of the public.

Artist Statement

The mural focuses on bio-diversity and emphasizes the importance of people from diverse cultural backgrounds working together to preserve existing ecological systems.

Central to the overall plan has been the involvement of young children to work on a project through which they have helped to create a positive future for their community and the world-at-large. Total public participation in the various aspects of this project numbers over 225 people. This includes the painting of 104 tiles by members of the community.

This project received a Mayor's Environment Achievement Award (2000).
