Richmond Sports Wall of Fame announces 2023 inductees

Two exceptional recipients in the categories of Coach and Team are among the local sports heroes to be honoured on Monday, November 27 at the Richmond Sports Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Richmond City Hall.

Lacrosse and wheelchair basketball coach Trish Nicholson and the championship-winning U14 Oldon Pirates girls’ soccer team of 1986 will join an esteemed group of 57 individuals and teams previously inducted into the Richmond Sports Wall of Fame.

"The Richmond Sports Wall of Fame not only recognizes past accomplishments, but also serves as an inspiration for future generations of athletes and coaches," said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. "The achievements of the inductees motivates individuals and teams to make their mark in their chosen sport, and the Wall of Fame showcases the heights that can be achieved through dedication, perseverance and passion."

This will be the sixth addition of inductees to the Richmond Sports Wall of Fame, which was established in 2015 and is located at the Richmond Olympic Oval. The Wall of Fame is an opportunity to celebrate the history of sport in Richmond and provides a hub for the community to recognize the outstanding achievements of all the inductees and their contributions. The Wall of Fame comprises eight induction categories of Pioneer, Builder, Coach, Official, Athlete, Masters Athlete, Team and Special Achievement.

The two inductees in 2023 are:

The Richmond Sports Wall of Fame and accompanying digital kiosk are located at the Richmond Olympic Oval and part of the Richmond Olympic Experience (ROX). The Wall of Fame is in the lobby on the first floor, and the digital kiosk is on the second floor as part of the History of Sport in Richmond Exhibit.
