Richmond Earth Day Youth Summit

The Richmond Earth Day Youth (REaDY) Summit is a youth-led event that provides Richmond students the opportunity to learn, lead and connect as they actively engage in environmental stewardship. Through the unique partnership of the City of Richmond, the Richmond School District, and the David Suzuki Foundation, REaDY helps build capacity for environmental education amongst Richmond secondary and elementary students, positioning them as change agents in their school and community.

The eighth annual REaDY Summit will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 from 8:45am to 12:30pm at Steveston–London Secondary School. This year’s theme is “#Y.E.S. Earth (Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Earth). The REaDY Summit theme was developed by the Steering Committee, consisting of secondary students from the City of Richmond’s Green Ambassador program, and reflects their desire to promote environmental awareness and empower youth to take action in their community.

The REaDY Summit has a strong legacy as a “by youth and for youth” event. Students in the Green Ambassador program are supported and mentored by the Partners to plan and deliver all activities for the participating upper intermediate students and green team members who attend REaDY as a school field trip. Workshops at the REaDY Summit will focus on a variety of sustainability topics including micro-plastics, ocean acidification, and the importance of local food production. Local organizations will also attend as exhibitors to provide attendees with information on innovative sustainability projects and programs.
