Declutter Your Winter Woes by Using the Large Item Pick Up Program!
Residents in townhomes and single-family homes with door-to-door Blue Box/Garbage Cart services can place out 6 large items for curbside collection per calendar year. Cleaning Out Your Closet?
Here Are Some Key Tips to Save You From Buying a New Wardrobe
Clothing is a large source of waste in the Metro Vancouver region and residents throw away the equivalent of 44 t-shirts per person per year. Here are some key tips on how to save your clothes and minimize your textile waste.
Reduce
- When buying new clothes, consider how they'll work with your existing outfits.
- Learn the signs of well made clothing, such as closely spaced, even stitching.
- Try buying second-hand clothing at thrift stores, consignment stores, etc.
- Consider renting clothes for a special occasion.
Repair
- Wash clothes in cold water and hang to dry, when possible.
- Many clothing repairs can be done at home, such as stitching a hole.
- Learn how to remove many types of stains.
Reuse
- Donate your clothing for reuse or consign for resale if it is in good condition.
- Use old, unwanted items to make new things, like a bag or rags for cleaning.
- Clothing that is not reusable can be given to an organization for recycling.

New & Used Drywall Disposal
Wondering How to Safely Dispose of Your Drywall?
New and used drywall can be taken to the Vancouver Landfill, located at 5400 72nd St, Delta, BC, V4K 3N3. There is no curbside collection or Large Item Pick-Up program for this material.
New Drywall
Drywall that has never been installed (no tape, mud or paint) and is date-stamped after 1990 can be recycled at the Vancouver Landfill or Vancouver South Transfer Station. This material does not need to be bagged.
Used Drywall
Used drywall requires careful handling and disposal, as drywall installed before 1990 can be contaminated with asbestos. It is important not to disturb this without protective equipment. Learn more about safe handling by visiting the Work Safe BC Drywall page.
Used drywall must arrive at the landfill in plastic bags that are 6 mil thick, double-bagged and sealed. See Metro Vancouver's New and Used Gypsum Disposal page for full instructions and where to purchase these heavy duty plastic bags.
Save On Fees With Garbage Disposal Vouchers
Richmond residents may purchase a $5 garbage disposal voucher at any City facility. These vouchers are good for up to $25 in disposal charge value at the Vancouver Landfill only. Please call ahead for more information 604-873-7000 or 311.
