Youth Services in RichmondYouth Services in Richmond
Richmond Youth Services aims to address the recreational, social and cultural needs of Richmond youth aged 13-24 years, by offering a wide range of interactive and innovative programs and services for youth that works on building Developmental Assets. The City has adopted the 40 Developmental Assets framework to develop and deliver youth programs and services. These assets have a tremendous influence on young people’s lives and choices.
The City of Richmond recognizes that Youth Services are essential in supporting youth to thrive in the Community. This is achieved by:
- Building relationships that are grounded in mentoring, role modelling and engagement;
- Creating meaningful experiences;
- Working with other agencies and services to support youth; and
- Building Developmental Assets in youth.
The City and Community Associations and Societies provide opportunities, initiatives and resources so that Richmond youth have a chance to feel heard, engaged and supported. This is achieved through:
- Youth staff (e.g. Youth Development Coordinators);
- Direct services and programs to youth;
- Community resource sharing; and
- Partnership building.
The City of Richmond has developed a new 10 year Youth Strategy to provide the City and those working with youth with a framework to support the unique needs of Richmond youth and young adults (13-24 years) and to provide the City with a strategic approach to making decisions about youth-related matters. The Youth Strategy identifies a vision that all youth are safe, valued, respected and have the supports, opportunities and resources to live rich and fulfilling lives.
The Draft 2022-2032 Richmond Youth strategy was approved by Richmond City Council to move forward to the public engagement stage in October 2022. Updated information on the Draft Youth Strategy and the public engagement opportunities can be found at Youth Strategy.
The City of Richmond offers a number of youth initiatives throughout the year. These activities support Richmond youth by creating engagement opportunities, recognizing and rewarding youth achievements, and celebrating youth and the value they bring to the community.
Youth Resources are available throughout the City to support youth, caregivers and/or adults who support youth in the Richmond community.
