Rapid Response to Homelessness

Rapid Response to Homelessness
In an ongoing effort to address local affordable housing needs, the City of Richmond has partnered with BC Housing to provide rental housing and services for Richmond’s most vulnerable residents. BC Housing (through its Rapid Response to Homelessness Program) and the City of Richmond (through its Affordable Housing and Homelessness Strategies) are collaborating to build modular rental supportive housing units in Richmond for people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness.

Modular supportive housing provides residents with a place to live and services to help them move towards independence and improved quality of life. This type of housing fills a housing gap in Richmond for individuals seeking to exit the shelter system or the streets. Supports include breakfast and a hot meal each day, life-skills training and access to health care services.

Aster Place
The City of Richmond, BC Housing, and a non-profit operator, Community Builders, worked together to create new modular supportive housing for up to 40 people experiencing homelessness. Located at 2520 Smith Street, Aster Place - Richmond Supportive Housing is open and is providing 24/7 staffing and wrap around supports for residents.

A Community Advisory Committee will be formed for the Aster Place to:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships amongst the community, the building operators and the program partners;
  • Facilitate information-sharing and dialogue;
  • Identify and resolve any issues, opportunities and concerns related to building operations; and
  • Support the success of the supportive housing project.

The committee will include a diverse mix of community members to maintain a balance of voices at the table. For more information, please contact the Director of Operations, Shauna Semenowich.

Alderbridge Supportive Housing
Alderbridge Supportive Housing, located at 6999 Alderbridge Way, is managed by RainCity Housing, an experienced and professional supportive housing operator. The 3-storey building with 40 safe and secure rental homes provides supportive services including: breakfast and a hot meal each day, life-skills training, and access to primary health and mental health services. The modular supportive housing development has been fully occupied since May 2019 and has benefitted from the support and guidance of a Community Advisory Committee since then. For more information please contact Adina Edwards, Manager.
