About Emergency Preparedness

Emergencies are a fact of life and can happen without warning. The following sections will provide you, your family, your school or your business with key information.

How to Prepare
Residents and businesses must be prepared to be self sufficient for at least 72-hours or more following a major emergency, such as an earthquake or flood. Visit Before an Emergency to access resources to help you develop an emergency plan, pull together emergency supplies, and increase your awareness of what to do in the event of an earthquake or other natural disaster.

How the City is Preparing

The City of Richmond's Emergency Management Office works in partnership with local first response agencies and City departments to develop and implement plans and programs to protect the community during disasters. Visit Planning Overview to learn more.

How You Can Get Involved

Do you want to give back to your community, make a difference to people affected by disaster, hone your public speaking skills, develop new skills or meet new people? Volunteer with the City's Emergency Management Program. If you would like to learn more about volunteering or apply to join the volunteer team, visit Volunteer Opportunities.
