FireResponding to fire calls is our primary purpose and is a municipally-funded taxpayer service. Trained firefighters are dispatched from their fire hall and drive emergency apparatus to calls normally within their primary response zones. Firefighters respond quickly and efficiently while ensuring the safety of all involved.
Their priority is to save lives by evacuating persons, searching for trapped victims and rescuing them. Firefighters assess the situation and identify hazards. They contain the fire to keep it from spreading and extinguish the fire to protect the structure and their contents from loss. Firefighters are trained to perform this service and use their protective clothing, self-contained breathing gear and firefighting equipment like hydrants, ladders, hoses, axes, and chain saws.
We work with our bordering fire department neighbours, in Vancouver, Delta and New Westminster and assist as needed.
At Vancouver International Airport (YVR) we respond to emergencies outside of the fenced runway and terminal area. We are contracted to provide backup airside emergency fire response services within the fenced area at YVR.
When we are not responding or training for emergency calls, we are engaged in prevention programs including fire safety inspections and community education.
