Seniors Services Events
Seniors Week commends and recognizes the contributions seniors bring to their community. This week long celebration is held at the beginning of June each year and offers many free and low cost activities, along with transportation, at community facilities City-wide.
The goals and objectives of Seniors Week are:
- To recognize and honour seniors in Richmond
- To highlight the positive contributions that seniors are making in our community
- To promote an understanding of and encourage positive attitudes towards seniors
- To promote healthy and active aging
Summer Garden Party - Celebrating Canada Coast to Coast
The annual Seniors Services Summer Garden Party invites seniors to enjoy afternoon high tea and entertainment at Minoru Plaza every August.
National Seniors Day/International Day of Older Persons
National Seniors Day is celebrated annually on October 1 to honour seniors for their many and varied contributions to their families, workplaces and communities. Events and programs raise awareness about seniors’ contributions and the important roles they play in Canadian society. Internationally, the General Assembly of the United Nations has designated October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons.
