Richmond City Council encourages community members to remain home, stream Council meetings online instead
20 March 2020
Richmond’s City Council is reminding members of the public that they can stream Council meetings online through the live broadcast service available at www.richmond.ca/cityhall/council/watch-video as an alternative to attending proceedings in person. This measure is being encouraged in light of the social distancing guidelines and recommended preventative measures from public health authorities to limit the spread of COVID-19.
While members of the public can still attend meetings, additional options will be offered for the next Regular Council Meeting on Monday, March 23 at 7:00pm for those who choose to remain home. Delegations wishing to be heard on an item that is on the agenda are encouraged to submit comments by 6 p.m. on Monday, March 23 by e-mailing cityclerk@richmond.ca or dropping off the information to City Hall to the attention of the City Clerk’s Office. Public submissions will be acknowledged and circulated to Council members immediately and provided to Council at the meeting. These submissions will form part of the official meeting record.
The health and wellness of Richmond residents, employees and Council remains a top priority. The City will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and is preparing plans for future meetings. Updates will be provided and communicated widely as the situation continues to evolve.
The City remains in regular contact with Medical Health Officers from Vancouver Coastal Health and B.C. Centre for Disease Control, the leading agencies for local public health, and continues to follow the agencies’ direction and recommendations.
