Richmond expedites business patio application process
28 May 2020
The City of Richmond has introduced an expedited patio application process to assist businesses seeking to recover from closures and other impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this week, Council approved an Expedited Temporary Patio program for restaurants, cafes and pubs that will allow such businesses to quickly expand their outdoor seating, either by using private property, parking lots or approved space on City sidewalks.
“The hospitality sector has been particularly hard hit by COVID-19 and many businesses are facing permanent closure unless they can find ways to provide service within public health guidelines,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “By creating this expedited process, we are offering businesses a quick way to access outdoor space for customers so they can move to recover from the impact of the pandemic.”
Council also provided a one-time pre-approval to the BC Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch for the temporary expansion of service to outdoor areas for liquor license holders. This will eliminate the need for multi-approvals, reducing the approval time further.
Under public health guidelines, dine-in food and beverage establishments must adhere to physical distancing rules and limit capacity to 50 per cent.
There is no cost to apply for the temporary business patio application. The guidelines and application form are available by contacting the Business Support Centre at 604-276-4114 or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The forms are also on the City’s website at: www.richmond.ca/busdev/licences/temporary-application.
