Richmond restoring licensed school year child care

To align with students’ return to school, the City is working with community centre associations to restore licensed school year child care starting Tuesday, September 8. This includes preschool and out of school care.

The child care programs are designed in accordance with provincial and local health guidelines, with the ability to adjust as requirements change. Licensed child care activities will be taking place in a mixed indoor/outdoor setting, with an emphasis on outdoor activities where possible. Participants will also be divided into smaller learning groups when there are opportunities to do so. Cleaning protocols have been enhanced and program staff are trained in COVID-19 health and safety strategies.

The preschools are designed to develop the whole child intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally and cognitively. A positive and encouraging learning environment is provided where children of various cultures and backgrounds share and learn about each other. These programs are designed to ensure children are ready for kindergarten.

With out of school care, energetic and creative instructors support children from kindergarten to grade seven in a fun and nurturing atmosphere. Children participate in a variety of activities before and after school designed to enhance their social, emotional, cognitive and physical well-being.
