Richmond cancels Standing Committee Meetings until end of May 2020

07 April 2020

To aid in curtailing COVID-19, City of Richmond cancels Standing Committee Meetings until end of May 2020

City of Richmond Council will postpone most Standing Committee meetings until at least the end of May 2020 to further strengthen existing physical distancing measures aimed at curtailing the spread of COVID-19.

The exceptions will be General Purposes Committee, Finance Committee and today’s Planning Committee meetings. Council Meetings and Public Hearings will also proceed as scheduled.

“It is crucial that we do everything we can to practice physical distancing and other health protocols to the fullest extent possible to protect the health and wellbeing of the public, staff and members of Council,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “While this will change how the City conducts business over the next few weeks, we will continue to do what we can to ensure time-sensitive and urgent reports are brought to Council's attention."

Mayor Brodie said reports requiring immediate attention that would normally go before the Community Safety; Planning; Public Works and Transportation; and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Committees will instead come forward to a scheduled General Purposes Committee meeting.

Recent bylaw updates allow Council members and staff to participate in Committee and Council meetings electronically.
