Kids to read, write and create with popular author Kallie George
Feb 1 2016
Popular children’s author Kallie George will spark your child’s imagination at the 2016 Children’s Arts Festival. She will be leading a special presentation for kids that will empower them to read and write their own stories and create a mythical creature inspired by her books. This is a great opportunity for your children to meet Kallie as well as spend quality time creating with you, as parent participation is also encouraged.
The 8th annual Children’s Arts Festival is presented by Lansdowne Centre and takes place on BC Family Day, Monday, February 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate.
“I am thrilled to be part of the Richmond Children’s Festival this year. When I was young, I was blessed to have parents and a community that nurtured my creativity. It is events such as the Children’s Arts Festival, which do that for today’s youth. It is so important for children to find creative ways to express themselves, something that they enjoy doing and that can become a future hobby or even a career” said Kallie. “I am excited to meet all the children coming to the festival and hope to inspire and help children create and share stories of their own. And I am sure I will be inspired myself by the magical week to come!”
Kallie is from Vancouver and holds a Masters of Children’s Literature from the University of British Columbia. Her chapter book series, the Magical Animal Adoption Agency was nominated for the 2016 Silver Birch Express Award. Book one of the series, called Clover’s Luck was the subject of a CBC podcast. Her picture book, The Melancholic Mermaid was also nominated for the 2012 Cybils Award. She also teaches creative writing workshops for aspiring writers and has worked with many children at festivals and at schools.
The presentation is for children five to eight years of age. The times are: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Seating for Kallie’s presentation is limited and pass holders will be given first priority.
