Celebrate the past, present and future of the Richmond Youth Dance Company
Feb 29, 2016
The Richmond Youth Dance Company returns to the stage with Kairos, an entertaining and moving celebration of the company’s defining moments since its establishment in 2010.
Kairos (which means “the most opportune and supreme moment in time”) follows the life of a dancer as she develops her craft — and herself — within the company, experiencing excitement, hilarity, companionship and sisterhood. As the dancers present a fresh spin on the most memorable and defining pieces in their repertoire, as choreographed by Miyouki Jego and Troy McLaughlin, Kairos is sure to excite through a mix of ballet and jazz dance styles.
Kairos marks the sixth annual dance showcase performed by the 20 auditioned dancers of the Richmond Youth Dance Company. This year, for the first time, a select group of dancers called company apprentices, rehearsed with the members in preparation for their summer auditions. The Richmond Youth Dance Company continues to play a vital role in the Richmond Arts Centre’s school year dance program, providing performance opportunities for youth and promoting dance and the arts as key elements to the vibrancy of Richmond.
Performances take place on March 4 and 5 at 7 p.m., and March 6 at 2 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre located at 7700 Minoru Gate. Tickets are $7 each, available in advance at the Cultural Centre or by calling 604 247-8300. Select tickets may also be available on the day of the performance, subject to availability.
