Beware of bear hugs in Steveston Park
16 August 2016
Bear hugs will abound at the Teddy Bears Picnic on Saturday, August 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All teddy bears and their owners are welcome to bring a lunch and picnic blanket and join in all the fuzzy fun at Steveston Park and the Steveston Interurban Tram Building.
Bears can get a first aid checkup and a paw palm reading while their human friends can enjoy teddy graham cookies, lemonade and temporary tattoos. The fun continues with balloon twister extraordinaire, Jack the Clown, and Matt Henry, a genius creator of giant bubbles.
Curious bears are also invited to climb on board the 104-year-old Interurban Tramcar 1220, currently under restoration at the Interurban Tram Building. Young bear owners can then construct a conductor hat for themselves and their bear friends, as well as enjoy colouring crafts just outside the tram building.
After a prize draw for a teddy bear and three runner up prizes of a giant gummy bear, the picnic will conclude with a teddy bear parade around Steveston Park at 12:45 p.m., led by Jack the Clown. All bear owners will receive a commemorative Bear Friends Forever (BFF) certificate.
The event is weather dependent as teddy bears prefer to stay dry.
