Richmond seeks public input to update Affordable Housing Strategy

The City of Richmond is updating its Affordable Housing Strategy and encourages the community to share their experience with housing affordability in Richmond. Residents are invited to participate in an online survey and pop-up information events throughout the city.
“Housing affordability is a critical issue faced by Richmond and Metro Vancouver,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “It is important that we understand residents’ housing concerns so that the City’s updated Affordable Housing Strategy can accurately address local housing challenges and opportunities in the coming years.”
The public is welcome to participate in one of the seven pop-up information events at the following locations to meet City staff and learn more:
Wednesday, May 11
- Hamilton Community Centre (5140 Smith Drive): 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
- Cambie Community Centre (12800 Cambie Road): 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday, May 17
- Steveston Community Centre (4111 Moncton Street): 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
- South Arm Community Centre (8880 Williams Road): 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 18
- Minoru Seniors Centre (7660 Minoru Gate): 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
- City Centre Community Centre (5900 Minoru Blvd #105): 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
- Minoru Aquatic Centre (7560 Minoru Gate): 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
Residents can also complete the online survey and find more project-related information at LetsTalkRichmond.ca. The survey will be open from Thursday, May 5 to Sunday, July 3, 2016. Printed copies of the survey will also be available at pop-up events. Throughout June, stakeholders will be invited to participate in a series of workshops. The City adopted its current Affordable Housing Strategy in 2007 and since that time has secured 1,392 affordable housing units in partnership with the private sector. In addition, there are over 2,872 affordable housing units for low-income households in Richmond that have been secured by senior governments and the non-profit sector.
