Richmond walls wanted for murals
21 June 2019
The City of Richmond’s Public Art Program is launching a new Community Mural Program to animate highly visible public spaces and bring together artists, students, community groups and/or local businesses to transform the places where we live, work, learn and play.
“Murals can have a transformative impact on a community,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “They can animate previously dormant public spaces, enhance community appeal and add vibrancy. Mural projects also offer tremendous opportunities for artists, students, community groups and local businesses to work together to create welcoming and beautiful environments that foster civic pride and appreciation of art and culture.”
Interested property owners are invited to propose a wall on their property for inclusion in the program. If successful, an artist (from a pre-qualified artist roster) will be matched with the property owner to create the mural. The City will manage the project and fund the work, and the property owner will provide permission and access to the wall for installation and agree to keep and maintain it for a minimum of five years. Locations must be visually accessible to the general public. Private single family residences and properties are not eligible.
Application deadline is Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
Interested property owners can find out more about the Community Mural Program by contacting the Public Art Program at 604-204-8696, email@example.com or visiting www.richmond.ca/culture/publicart/program/communitymural for information and a link to the application form.
