Join the ParticipACTION challenge and help make Richmond more active
29 May 2019
The City of Richmond is participating in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge from Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 16. This new and nationwide annual initiative rallies communities to sit less and move more. The goal is to engage family, friends, neighbours and fellow community members to get active and track all physical activity through the ParticipACTION mobile application or online platform.
The Community Better Challenge encourages residents to experience and enjoy the benefits of being active. Physical activity provides health benefits, increases social connectedness and improves overall well-being. This initiative supports Richmond’s Community Wellness Strategy and its designation as a Global Active City. Participation in initiatives like this challenge help promote the benefits of physical activity and motivate Richmond residents to get active in their day-to-day lives and in the City’s many parks, trails, bike routes and community facilities.
Participants who use the mobile application or the online platform to track physical activity can earn rewards and are entered into weekly, monthly and quarterly draws for prizes.
To kick off the challenge, a free Yoga in the Park event is planned for Friday, May 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the Minoru Oval. In addition, a number of free activities are being offered over the two-week period.
