New magazine gives voice to LGBTQ2S youth
10 June 2019
The community is invited to celebrate the release of the Just Like U magazine, a unique publication coordinated by LGBTQ2S youth. Over the course of four sessions at the Richmond Media Lab, a group of 20 youth learned the media art skills necessary to create this magazine, which reflects the experiences of living as LGBTQ2S youth, particularly trans youth in Richmond.
The City Centre Community Association and partners from the Richmond Media Lab are hosting a celebration, which takes place on Thursday, June 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rooftop Garden at the Richmond Cultural Centre located at 7770 Minoru Gate.
To RSVP to the event, email email@example.com by Wednesday, June 12. For more information about this project and the celebration, call the City Centre Community Centre at 604-204-8588.
Trans youth still face challenges around gender affirming access to spaces such as washrooms, feeling safe in schools and inclusive health care. The goal of the project is to raise awareness among adults who work with youth and some of the challenges they face. Those that attend will receive a free copy of the Just Like U magazine while supplies last.
This project was funded by TransCare BC, an organization aiming to enhance the coordination of trans health services and support avenues across the province.
