‘Scape to the 11th annual Richmond Garlic Festival
06 August 2019
The pungent, much-loved garlic bulb will once again be showcased at the 11th annual Richmond Garlic Fest taking place Sunday, August 18, at the Sharing Farm in award winning Terra Nova Rural Park in Richmond.
The celebration takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. where over one thousand pounds of locally grown garlic will be sold. Most of the garlic is harvested at The Sharing Farm, located at 2771 Westminster Highway.
“The Garlic Festival is a community favourite in Richmond,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Not only does it showcase one of Richmond’s finest parks, it also serves to support The Sharing Farm Society’s incredible work in providing local produce for low-income families in our community.”
The festival will feature The Sharing Farm’s produce and garlic-laced dishes for purchase, prepared by top chefs from across the region, including a unique garlic ice cream; a collaboration between Earnest Ice Cream and The Sharing Farm. Other festival highlights include live music, a large selection of The Sharing Farm’s produce to purchase, a garlic growing workshop, a children’s area with family friendly activities and free bike tune-ups.
For the second year, the event will feature birds of prey demonstrations with expert bird handlers educating and entertaining the crowd. These birds will also perform a number of flying maneuvers, acrobatics and speed, and dexterity drills.
Admission to the festival is by donation and is suitable for all ages. Limited parking is available. A bike valet service will be available in a securely guarded area near the festival entrance, so consider cycling or taking transit to this event.
