Major trail temporarily closed during Minoru Park sports fields upgrade
07 May 2014
As part of the development of the sports fields in Minoru Park, sections of the Minoru Park trail system will be temporarily closed to the public starting on Thursday, May 8 until the end of October 2014. The major trail pathway linking the east to west connection will be closed. The public is asked to use the perimeter trail system of the park when walking or cycling.
Signs have been installed to inform the public of alternate trails. Construction crews will be working from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday to Friday and occasionally on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Public cooperation is appreciated.
The new concept plan for the sports fields will convert the existing Latrace baseball diamond into Richmond’s first all-weather artificial turf baseball/soccer field. In addition, there will be a new multi-purpose artificial turf field in the north of the park. The cricket pitch and track and field throwing events will also be relocated. The new sports field configuration was developed in consultation with the Richmond Sports Council. Construction of the new playing fields is expected to be completed this fall.
