Description of Work:
The Youth Mentorship project coordinated during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games provided the opportunity for an established Aboriginal artist to mentor a cross-cultural group of local area youth in developing art reflecting their personal histories. The result is 11 unique painted boards.
I always approach work with students, with anyone for that matter, as a collaborative learning experience. Regardless of age, gender, position or culture, there is always something new to learn. This was the core belief in working with this group of students. I wanted to be able to share what I was about, to gauge what they wanted to accomplish in this project, to have them teach me about themselves and their place in society as new creators of content.
